Unready (2023)
Get set, ready? Don’t go
A young woman is invited to go out with her friend but for some reason, she cannot leave her apartment.
Director’s Statement:
Unready is a short psychological drama that follows a young woman invited out by a friend, yet unable to leave her apartment. Through intimate, stylised close-ups inspired by the visual language of women getting ready, the film subverts familiar imagery to reveal the emotional paralysis that lingers after sexual trauma. As the audience’s understanding of the protagonist shifts, Unready examines how women’s bodies and clothing remain burdened with judgement and projection, exploring themes of safety, autonomy, and the experience of occupying public space after abuse. Rather than depicting violence directly, the film focuses on its presence within ordinary moments, reflecting the quiet anxieties many women continue to navigate in everyday life.
